We met an interesting couple who are raising goats and cattle in their 8-hectare farm in Palauig, Zambales at the Agrilink trade expo on October 4, 2018. They are Gilbert and Rachel Bugia who used to be employees of a big broadcasting company in Manila. They gave up their jobs in the city to devote their time to farming in the province.
Gilbert and Rachel Bugia at the Agrilink trade show. Both are 45 but they look much younger than their age.
The husband and wife tandem claims they are already 45 but they look very much younger. They are currently taking care of 500 head of cattle mainly for breeding. They have recently acquired a Wagyu bull at P200,000 to upgrade the genetics of their present stocks that include Brahmans and Batangas cattle.
They also take care of 2,000 goats of the Boer breed and upgraded other breeds. Their farm, NW Farm, is actually a subfarm of DV Boer International for whom they take care of the animals for breeding and fattening. They make money from their share of the offspring.
How do the Bugias feed their goats and cattle? Well, they feed them with a lot of corn silage. They use about 200 tons of silage every month. They have corn farmer cooperators who plant corn for silage making.
