When you attend an agricultural trade show, you can find very interesting products and also meet some of the most interesting people.

At the ongoing Agrilink trade show which ends today, October 11, 2014, we were most fascinated by what is claimed as the smallest cucumber  (0.5 to 2.5 inches) in the world that is commercially produced. And a most interesting personality is no other than the lady who is commercially producing and processing the smallest cucumber – Ms. Virginia ‘Dewi’ Hanrieder.

Dewi’s smallest cucumber is very unique. Unlike other varieties that are distributed by large seed companies, Dewi’s cucumber is a perennial plant that can develop a big vine and can live and stay productive for as long as 30 years. On the other hand, the hybrid cucumbers developed and distributed by the local and foreign companies stay productive for only a couple of months or even less after starting to bear fruit.

  1. I called and i was able to talk to maam dewi but i was told to get an appointment to be able to see her and see her farm. I am from isabela and i am interested with her “contract grower” arrangement where i will plant at least ten hectares of land with the smallest cucumber and she will be the one to buy all my harvest.
