A delegation of 10 agricultural experts and successful young farmers from Taiwan will arrive in Manila on April 22, 2019 for a five-day orientation on developments and opportunities in agriculture. At the same time they will share their expertise in implementing a young farmers development program that encourages the youth to go into agribusiness.
The delegation is headed by Dr. Wang Chin-Hsiung, past Taichung agriculture bureau chief and adviser of the Safe and Modern Agriculture Technology Promotion Society.. He will be accompanied by Fr. Ma Yuh-An, chairman of Central Taiwan Agricultural Cooperative; Dr. Tsai Yi-Sio, outstanding cabbage farmer; Wei Zhong-Chi, Top 100 Farmers of Taiwan awardee; Huang Tsuei, mango farmer; Thu Wei-Wen, greenhouse high-value crop farmer; Lou Pei-Chia, cherry tomato and melon farmer; Lin Wei-Chi, editor of Good Farmer Magazine; Wang Yu-Hong, mushroom farmer; and Regina, expert in microbial inoculants.
In the afternoon of the first day, they will participate in the Philippine-Taiwan Agriculture Forum at the Go Negosyo headquarters in Pasig City. The Taiwan delegation will share their know-how and experiences in modern farming. On the other hand, the Philippine participants will share their own programs and activities. These include the DA-High Value Crops Development Program, Department of Trade and Industry, Dr. Rolly Dy of UA&P, PCAFI, Go Negosyo, PEZA and Mayor Eddie Guillen of Piddig, Ilocos Norte.
The Taiwan group will also visit the okra farms in Tarlac as well as farms and institutions in Nueva Ecija like the Philippine Carabao Center, CLSU and rice processing and packaging facilities.
On April 24, the Taiwan visitors will proceed to Negros Occidental where they will meet Gov. Alfredo Marañon for briefings on agricultural developments and opportunities for partnerships and investments. On the part of the Taiwanese, they will give briefings on their Young Farmers Development Program, the Taiwan model of natural farming, and the new Southbound Policy of the Taiwan government. The group will also visit farms and tourist destinations.
