OMAR ZAIDAN has emailed to us interesting information (text and photo) about Vietnam’s dragon fruit and other fruits and vegetables which he sourced from le courriervn.
The photo he sent shows the enormous harvest of dragon fruit which may keep some people wondering how they sell all those harvests. Well, it is said that Vietnam exports its fruits to 40 countries. The flagship fruit is dragon fruit, followed by watermelon, lychee, longan, jackfruit and others.
Exports of fruits and vegetables have been growing at a fast clip. Exports earned only US$460 million in 2010; $1.5 billion in 2014; and $2.2 billion in 2015. In 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has targeted an 11% increase in export of fruits and vegetables.
This blogger, Zac B. Sarian, visited earlier this year dragon fruit farms in Long An province. We were really impressed by the big areas planted to dragon fruit. In one place 800 contiguous hectares are planted to just dragon fruit.
